Ugh just after I posted the security measures taken to protect the final Harry Potter book from being leaked, some dipshit has already leaked it on the net! Scholastic, the American publishers of the book have not got a subpeona to find out the scroundrel who did it.
Scholastic said in a court filing Monday that “materials hosted on Photobucket.com’s system” contain materials that infringe copyrights owned by Scholastic and J.K. Rowling, author of the Harry Potter books. Photobucket.com, a News Corp. unit, is a Web site for sharing photos and videos on social networks such as MySpace. The subpoena was sent to Gaia Interactive in San Jose, California, and seeks the identity of a user on gaiaonline.com, a social network, according to the filing in San Francisco federal court.
However, fear not my Harry Potter-loving friends. The version of the book that is out now may not even be the real thing.
The subpoena covers “both material that would be original material and material derived from the original,” Scholastic spokeswoman Kyle Good said in a telephone interview.
She said it wasn’t clear whether the material published on Photobucket.com is the book’s text or a fraud. “The question still remains, what’s real and what’s not real,” she said.
I’d say if you’re really worried about spoilers, stay away from the internet for the next few days! Otherwise, you only have yourself to blame.
